Settle Plate in Air Sampling
A settle plate is an agar plate, placed in a defined location. For consistency of sampling, for cleanroom it used in the pharmaceutical industry for semi-quantitative determination of microbial contaminations in the air.
After four hours, they have undergone their maximum weight loss and should not be used for further examinations. Experiments showed that the initial weight loss is very high and then gradually becomes constant until it reaches four hours. After that the loss of weight starts affecting the growth of microorganisms.
What is the difference between contact and settle plates?
- Settle plates are placed in the environment for a specific period to allow the airborne microorganisms to settle on the surface of the plate.
- Contact plates are similar to settle plates, but they are used to collect microbial samples from surfaces.
Settle plate and swaps are determine the size of microbial contamination in Aseptic filling.
