Active Coating Process

Active coating means a coating solution that contains an active substance. Here we must know why the active substance is placed in a coating solution?

In order for the effect of the active substance to be rapid, even if it is placed inside the core, it will not achieve what is required of it. Thus, inside the tablet is a long-acting active substance, and inside the coating is a fast-acting active substance.

Sometimes some companies resort to making a double layer tablets, but this has an impact on the size of the tablets, as it is large and can cause problems during the blistering stage, and it is also difficult to swallow due to its large size.

What are the stages of Active Coating?

1. The sealing stage

At this stage, the active substance in the core is isolated from the active substance that is in the coating solution, and a large layer is formed, not less than 5% of the volume of the tablet, in order to isolate the two substances from each other.

2. Active layer stage

This is the stage in which the active ingredient is sprayed into the coating solution and the active ingredient + is used

  • polymer
  • plasticizer
  • talc

Of course, adding the polymer to give viscosity to the solution and make the distribution suitable on the tablets..

There are several factors that must be taken into consideration for the success of the Active Coat process.

1: The patch size must be suitable for the Capacity Pan, of course, to ensure proper stirring of the tablets and also to distribute the solution.

2: The solution should not be of high viscosity to ensure proper flow is achieved and the spray line is not clogged.

3: do a test to the guns to ensure that the lowest diffraction is achieved between the guns.

4: The presence of sufficient solution to compensate for the loss during spraying.

5:Stir the solution of the active ingredient well from the beginning of the process to its end.

6: The pan speed is appropriate and it is preferable to set it throughout the coating stage to ensure good distribution of the solution.

A sample of the tablets is then taken from the pan from more than one place to begin the testing process.

3. The final film coating stage

In this process, a final layer is given that contains a distinctive color for the tablets, and sometimes the color is applied with the Active Layer.
